This design talks about the idea of the lost West and the nostalgia that comes with it. On the top of the design, it says, “the sun sets over an empire,” which is a dual reference from the Sopranos (Tony Soprano says it to Dr. Melfi) and from the phrase “The empire on which the sun never sets.” Here we are using the cowboy iconography to reference the fact that we are losing a way of life that is more connected to nature.

At the bottom of the design it says, “it was the best of times, it was the worst of times,” which is a reference to “A Tale of Two Cities” by Charles Dickens. While the quote originates by describing the French Revolution, here we are talking about the type 2 type of fun where it’s both the best and the worst. Where you are cracked on your bike and all out of snacks, but you keep pedaling and it turns into the best ride of your life.
